Top line: what you actually added, over and above sitting still.
Bottom line: what that cost you in volatility.
Raise the top or lower the bottom. Both improve the ratio.
The Sharpe ratio asks one uncomfortable question of any result: what did you risk to get it? Divide the excess return by the volatility you accepted, and a spectacular year earned recklessly stops looking spectacular.
It exists because of a very human bias. We quote the number we like and quietly leave out the cost of producing it. A trader who made forty percent by betting the book is not better than one who made twelve percent steadily. They are a different, worse proposition wearing a better headline. The ratio is the correction. It puts the denominator back.
Focus products have exactly the same bias, and almost nobody applies the correction. The lift is what gets advertised. The costs are real but nobody prints them: the crash on the far side of it, the sleep it quietly borrowed against, the four bottles you had to buy and remember to take, the tolerance that means next month needs more. All of that belongs in the denominator.
Naming a product after the ratio is a commitment to keeping it there. In practice that means three specific things, and each one is a constraint we accepted rather than a feature we invented.
01 One input, not a stack Adherence
One capsule, once a day. Not because more ingredients would be impossible to source, but because a regimen you abandon in three weeks returns zero regardless of what was in it. The most sophisticated stack in the world has a ratio of nothing if it lives in a cupboard. Adherence is not a soft consideration here. It is the numerator.
02 A steady input, not a spike Volatility
The formula is built around a modest once-daily dose, with L-theanine and GABA sitting alongside the caffeine rather than a large stimulant load on its own. We are not trying to produce the most dramatic possible ninety minutes. We are trying to produce a day you do not pay for at four o'clock, or at midnight when you cannot sleep. Lower peak, better ratio.
03 The whole list, printed Disclosure
Every ingredient is named on the panel and explained on this site in plain English, including the ones that take three months to do anything and the one that is active enough to raise with your doctor. A number you cannot audit is not a number. It is a claim.
There is one more thing the ratio implies, and it is the least commercial sentence on this website: the risk-free rate matters. Before you optimise anything, the returns available from sleeping properly, eating, and not scheduling your hardest thinking for four in the afternoon are large, free, and unbeaten by any capsule. SHARPE is built to sit on top of that, not to substitute for it.
